In 1953, Francis Crick and James Watson made a huge leap for scientific research and development when they discovered the double-helix structure of DNA.  Their study, research, and findings earned them not only a lot of notoriety but also the Noble Prize.  When interviewed about their research and discovery, one reporter asked Francis Crick what it took to make such a big discovery and earn such a prestigious award.  His answer was short but powerful:

"Oh, it's very simple. My secret had been I know what to ignore."

Crick understood that you can get consumed by a lot of things that can keep you from ultimately achieving your best.  His advice is one to take note of - sometimes you just have to know what to ignore.  In today's video, we are looking at three things to ignore:

1) The doubts that prevent you from growing.

2) The feeling of needing to measure up.

3) The idea that all failure is bad.

Let's start with ignoring the doubts that prevent you from growing.  If you are like most people, you probably have some nagging doubts about your capabilities.  Maybe you find yourself thinking about trying something new, developing more challenging goals, or pushing the limits of what you think is capable... but when you spend too much time thinking about it you begin to talk yourself out of those goals.  You doubt if you are capable. You doubt your skills. If you don't learn to ignore your doubts, eventually your doubts will take you out!  This is why learning to ignore your doubts is a must when being open to growth.  The truth is, you will never grow an inch in your comfort zone. In order to grow personally or in your business you must learn to ignore the doubts that keep you tied to your current ways of doing things!

Another area that is important to ignore is the feeling of measuring up to others. Are you the kind of person that notices how well others are doing in your office?  Or, maybe you can't help but see how many homes another real estate agent has been selling lately.  Measuring up may not even have to do with your business.  Maybe you look around and compare your finances, spouse, or children's achievements with others.  And, when you do, the comparison makes you feel defeated.  When you dare to compare you will end up feeling in despair. In your business and in your life, the only person you need to be better than is the person you were yesterday. So, as you are learning to ignore, ignore the feelings of measuring up or comparing yourself to someone else.

Last of all, we must learn to ignore the little voice in our heads that tells us that failure is bad.  Whether your failure was in the past, is something that you are currently dealing with, or an event to be experienced in the future, failure is not all bad! By avoiding failure we ultimately avoid success! How you may ask?  we when take not risks we never open ourselves to the possibility of how we can grow.  We also can learn a lot from our failures if we are open to it.  Instead of repeating the same mistakes over and over again, if we learn from our failures they can actually catapult us towards success. Therefore, one important area we must learn to ignore is that we must avoid failure at all cost.

Once we learn how to ignore the right things, it becomes increasingly easier to accomplish the tasks at hand. We are no longer saddled by the distractions and fears that want to keep us from accomplishing our goals, but we are free to make progress at a better and more healthy speed!
