Back To The Basics
Jun 29, 2021It's the last Monday of the month... but it's still a Monday, which means it's time for MONDAY MOTIVATION!
Over the past couple of weeks, we have been looking at some 'proverbs' or wise sayings from people who have 'been there and done that.' Today we are looking at an inspiring quote from Jim Rohn who was a best-selling author, self-made businessman, and sought-after speaker. Here is Jim's quote for today:
"Success is neither magical nor mysterious. Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying basic fundamentals."
In today's society, we want the quick fix. We want the 3-step process. We want the magic pill that will help solve all of our issues. The problem with that is that it doesn't exist. There are no simple answers to tough challenges - however - that doesn't mean that we cannot rise to meet and exceed those challenges!
In Jim's quote, he points out three important ideas towards achieving success in life and in business, so let's take a quick look at them:
1) Be consistent! Seasons come and go. Moods come and go. Ideas come and go. Fads come and go. But, when it comes to success, you must be consistent. Whether it comes to eating healthy foods, exercising, or phone calls and popby's with your clients and sphere of influence, consistency is key! Many new real estate agents try many things hoping to get a quick payoff. They might try farming an area for a couple of months, or do a few popby's, or make some calls for a while, but when there is no immediate success, they give up and move on to the next thing that promises results. When you are consistently inconsistent in regards to your methods, your results will reflect your practice! So, whatever you decide to do, be consistent at it. Decide your course of action, and then stick with it!
2) Application makes all the difference! You are a pretty smart person who seeks to learn and grow even more! How do I know that? Because not everyone is going to read a blog about success and how to improve. So, kudos to you! You are a part of a small segment of people who try to obtain knowledge and want to grow your business. But, let me warn you, knowledge isn't enough! Let me prove it to you: You know lots of things about eating right, exercising, relationships, parenting, how to handle stress or the effects of stress, the benefits of proper sleep, etc. But, does your knowledge of those areas always lead to the application of that knowledge? The simple answer is "No." As humans, we typically only apply the knowledge that already comes easiest to our comfort zone and skill set. Real growth happens when we make the decision to consistently apply our knowledge in the areas that will stretch us in new ways. As a friend has told me before, "You never grow an inch in your comfort zone!"
3) Fundamentals truly are the key! When I played high school football I remember our coach yelling at half-time during a game in which we should have been winning but were getting beat terribly, that we had forgotten the fundamentals. The fundamentals are the solid building blocks for success in ANY area of life. You want to lose weight? The fundamentals are diet and exercise. Looking to build your marriage relationship? Practice being loving, forgiving, and serving your spouse. Do you want to grow your real estate business? Invest in relationships where you nurture trust, communication, and exceeding expectations. It's that simple... and yet, oftentimes we sacrifice the fundamentals for the newest fad in hopes that it will get better results. The truth is, the 'latest, greatest fad' will never bring you the success that the basic fundamentals, applied consistently over time will!
You see- if you want to succeed in life or business, there truly is no magic pill. There is no mystery about it at all. If you understand the basics, are willing to apply them, and apply them consistently throughout your life, you WILL be successful. The question is, what are you going to do with this information now?
